An introverted dreamer, Blue spent more time reading about life than actually living it. Which wasn't a problem at first; her family was able to comfortably provide for their family of four. However, it did become a problem when the Grimshaw gang passed through the dusty town in the great outside. Enamored with the life they lived, Blue flung herself into the wild west she'd spent so many years dreaming about. She packed her best dresses, a sunhat for protection, and rode her horse side saddle to go and become one of them. Unfortunately reality is not forgiving to the naïve. Life was quick to deal her a hard hand consisting of physical and emotional heartache.
Blue is bubbly and chatty, but as a new esk, she's laden with a heavy amount of grief that she struggles to process. She feels responsible for the deaths of her closest friends and fled into the desert after she learned of their passing. Forever underestimating the perils of the desert, she was overwhelmed by the elements and found by 007. She tells herself she prefers to be alone, but deep down, she blossoms into a much bubblier esk when she's in good company. She has a sweet laugh, and her eyes turn up like 007 when she's happy. |
Blue learned how to perform transformations from her creator, 007, so she takes great care in making sure the transformation brings peace to the new esk. She is open to doing transformations, but she becomes extremely upset if the resulting esk is a trespasser. She enjoys interacting with the esks she transforms and considers them as great friends. She performs transformations commonly on creatures close to death or dying, or other situations similar to the circumstances around her own transformation. She does not typically transform objects. Her transformations are a significant event with the intention to honor the esk. Transformations feel like laying down to sleep after a particularly long day.

Willa neither admits to herself nor to others that her heart has always belonged to Jude Gray. Two socks in a pair, stars rotating in orbit, a moon and its sun, they have always belonged to each other- a fact Jude has always told her in his letters, but a fact neither were able to accept until far too late. They were both able to mutually accept that with their lives of traveling apart, a marriage, a homestead, a family were never things that were in their future- though that never stopped them from talking about it with wild abandon. Anything and everything to avoid talking about the reality they lived and they work they did. Never talked about their given identities, The Pale Crow and The Recluse, when they knew they already knew their true names. An unfortunate detail when Willa confronts Jude’s group, not realizing his moniker was the one that she’d been pursuing in the revenge of Mac’s death. That betrayal cut deep and plants an ember of hatred that burns in Willa’s heart long into her eskhood. It’s not until Ora finds and tells her the truth that’s able to give him the apology Jude long deserved.

Initially intimidated by the woman, Willa finds herself uncharacteristically nervous during their first interactions. After all, it’s hard not to in the presence of Denora Walker. In the first days to weeks after Willa jons the Wild Delta, she often hesitates to initiate conversations with Ora but, at the same time, fosters a deep admiration for her. Willa often wishes for a lot of the same qualities as Ora, her comfortableness in this wild environment, her steady fearlessness, and her calm confidence. It’s not until some shared conversation over horses and eventually the catch of Winona, that there’s a breaking of the ice between the two of them. Eventually, an irreplaceable friendship is forged between the two; with their differences in skills and knowledge complimenting the other and helping the other succeed in personal accomplishments; ultimately giving the other a chance despite being at their worst. It’s because of this, that Ora is the first of the gang she seeks out and is able to face the hell wrath that encompasses her friend's esk form. Rain to the fire, Blue is able to remind Ora of better days and happier memories that aren’t filled with anger and sadness. |

Blue has regarded Tex in a positive light and is a cherished friend--it also helps that she was incredibly smitten with him during their first interactions. Despite there being some chemistry, it wasn’t enough to hold either of them for anything long term. Though they had eyes for other people, they always had a soft spot for each other and would remain close friends. Their relationship initiated back when Willa’s parents had taken Tex off the streets, and then further strengthened when Willa often talked with Tex about her hard adjustment to becoming an outlaw. Tex being the first she really opens up to about not feeling like she fits in with them and the struggles of how that feeling has chased her through her lifetime.

One of her closest and oldest friends, Mac holds a special place in Willa’s heart. The two meet at a young age through their parents, and grow up together. Oftentimes, the pair spent long afternoons playing while their parents discussed boring, adult matters. Matters that eventually led to both couple’s agreeing that Mac and Willa would be married when they came of age. Willa wasn’t aware of the arranged engagement until much later, after she joins the Wild Delta and is told by Mac. At that point, she’s able to whole-heartedly laugh about the deal since the two have never seen each other as more than friends. Their friendship has always been strong, even despite Mac’s sudden departure during their teens, Willa is left without answers or closure despite months of searching for him. Her anger towards his disappearance is largely redirected towards his mother, who, to Willa’s bafflement, refuses to help search for him in any way. Mac was often an escape from the isolation her parents put on her and slowly a deep feeling of loneliness began to engrave itself on her soul. A feeling that is enforced by her parents, boarding school, friends (or lack there-of), and persists despite her happy reunitement with Mac and joining the Wild Delta.

Sharing a tent together when Willa first joins definitely had it’s hurdles and benefits. The women certainly had a rocky beginning. Their two personalities often clashing more than meshing during their initial days. Coming from two entirely different backgrounds, Willa frequently struggled with ways to bond with Poke. Willa wasn’t able to relate to a lot of Poke’s interests and abilities during Willa’s first days in camp. This left a sparse collection of conversation topics and more awkward silences. Willa looked up to Poke but understood that she was not getting along with her; and Willa got it, but she didn't know how to fix it with her social tactic toolbox running out until she utilized a boarding school classic- gossip. Talking about Tex and other members of the gang opened a door to more comfortable conversation, one not centered around Poke. Finally able to connect with her tent-mate somehow, one word answers became lengthier conversations until the pair became steadfast friends. The nature of their relationship evolves into one akin to siblings, each regarding the other as a sister- though, Willa will always readily admit that even, if Willa is older, Poke has been the elder sister just as much as Willa has.

Unbeknownst to Willa, Rio Diaz is already familiar with the Allis family, particularly after Willa steals Vivian and heads into the desert. Dia becomes acquainted more with her parents than Willa herself, but that changes when Ora enters both of their lives. Willa first learns about Dia through snippets, as much as Ora would read aloud of beautifully penned letters, and then, slowly, through tidbits here and there of stories Ora chose to share. Eventually, Willa is finally able to put a face to name and is able to meet the elusive Rio Diaz, and Willa will always congratulate Ora’s choice in people. Willa greatly admires the accomplished lawyer with her quick wit and sharp mind.

Had it not been for 007, Blue would still be moping in a dark and dusty house trapped by memories. With caring nudging, 007 manages to pull Blue out of her shell and back into the real world and address life as an esk. It takes several years of motivating, hand holding, and a little bit of nagging, but eventually Blue resembles more of her old self and less of an empty shell. The pair face a few trials and tribulations together and ultimately support each other as they face individual fears and trauma. Due to 007’s caring and pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps attitude, Blue is able to regain some semblance of confidence in herself and find the members of her family.
