Whisper

Picture
Sun down, listen.
Death of the songbirds rhythm, birth of the ghost-birds wisdom, flight of the nights first owl silhouetted as the skies turn crimson.
Moonrise kingdom.
In the silver-lit river where the grass blades glisten, some stay hidden.

character

Whisper was previously a private detective that could never adequately separate her work and personal life.  Her disposition (complete with extreme arrogance, a god complex, and a considerable amount of selfishness ) allowed her to be brilliant at her career, but her well being outside of work suffered from from the trained ability to excise anything with sentimental value out of her life.  An unhealthy childhood allowed her to have an upside down view that sentimentality is the same as weakness, and she is quick to judge both herself and others on this incorrect concept of weakness.  Her personal isolation from removing everything and anything of meaning in her life has resulted in a deep bitterness towards the rest of the world. She struggles to admit to herself that this anger is really directed at herself rather than everyone in else.  A continuous denial of this fact has resulted in an afterlife form of resentment and hatred.

Consequently, her nature features are tangible representations of these emotions. Water hemlock, false indigo, and hyacinth are all toxic plants and heavily adorn her chest and tail.   Sometimes they are offered as gifts to passerby's that are transformed soon after.  Her fur is inky black with shifting iridescence along her body and tail. She prefers being in deeper river water, where the bulk of her fur naturally floats with the use of telekinesis.  Whisper is not as adept at walking on land and quickly becomes annoyed at managing her fur out of water.  Her voice, true to her name, is a feminine, almost disembodied whisper.  It has an aura of captivation that is excellent in compelling those who she's interacting with to come dangerously closer.  She has a swarm of familiars that can act as her eyes among the forest.  The loons she manifests have the same pale eyes as she does but are otherwise nearly identical to living loons.  They're haunting cries often mark where the edge of her boundary begin.  Be careful.

Finding the unsuspecting is a favorite past time and she models her transformations off of biome wanderer Seventh.  They aren't pretty or fun for anyone except for Whisper.    She doesn't  doesn't offer any guidance or help for the newly transformed.  The fun's been had, and she doesn't feel the need to stick around.

Whisper does not make friends easily, mainly because she is very difficult, near impossible, to be around.  A lot of her interactions are charged with anger and are met with aggression, esk and living creatures a like.  She has a mildly more tolerance for trespassers over travelers simply because she has a slight interest as to how they,  too, became trespassers.

Whisper and her sister  had a splintered relationship before they were both esks, and it has not improved since they have taken new forms.  Growing up, Miri was the baby sister, the cute sibling, and, very much so, the easier one to love.  Where Whisper was closed off and private, Miri was warm and welcoming.  People's natural gravitation towards Miri made growing up tough for Whisper, and over time, resentment polarized their relationship.  Whisper grew to criticize anything that she could about her younger sister- Miri's family life, her career choice, and her hobbies, and Whisper strived to do the opposite of everything that Miri was in the attempt to finally be the better sister.

Her only friend that can tolerate to be around her for more than a little while.  Whisper relies heavily on this friendship since both have a significant amount of anger and resentment towards past life events.   She would never admit it face to face, but he is the only true friend she has allowed herself to have.  This friendship enables  Kell to challenge Whisper to face the true roots of the anger that composes so much of her being, and in doing so, Whisper must undo and redo several parts of herself to become whole again.

Fern bears the brunt of Whisper's antics and torment, as she harbors the largest amount of resentment towards her creator.   She didn't want this life. She didn't want to be a ghost. A former husk of what she used to be, which..really wasn't much better. Needless to say her transformation wasn't wanted, despite Fern's best intentions, and she makes sure that there isn't a day where he forgets as much.
